I drew this flower in the dark of the early morning
as a way to anchor myself into the day.
The process of drawing it
tethered me when I felt about to float away.
That I liked what I drew surprised me.
It wasn’t the point.
I photographed it in the low light
of where I sat in bed.
Left it grey, I like it that way.
The grey tones remind me of the Peter Peryer
photographs I have loved
for decades.
He wasn’t afraid of grey.
